What is EMV?
EMV is the globally established standard for terminals and chip cards equipped with computer chips and the technology used to authenticate chip-card transactions. Europay, MasterCard, and Visa (EMV) developed the standard to ensure worldwide interoperability. EMV defines how debit and credit payment applications function. In early 2009, American Express (Amex) joined as the fourth owner/member of EMVCo.

What is a Chip Card?
A chip card ('smart card') is a credit or debit card that carries an embedded microchip. A chip card is viewed as the next generation of credit and debit cards. Just like the older debit cards, chip cards will require the cardholder to key in a Personal Identification Number (PIN.)
