    Receiving "Unknown EMV Status (BadStepOrder)" when using an EMV card reader.

    Description

    The error occurs when the inserted credit card is abruptly removed before the card is fully accepted by the terminal.

    Resolution

    Refrain from removing the credit card until you have seen an approval prompt explicitly.

    Note: The error does not specify whether or not the transaction was approved. For this reason, users need to check any approval status in the Virtual Terminal before proceeding with another attempt.

    Depending on how far you are in the card authorization process, the transaction may or not have been approved; which further reinforces the need to check in the VT.
